<itunes:subtitle>Rare earth metals are used for a myriad of reasons including electronics, fuel cells, fiber optics, magnets, CRT's and LCD's, as well as their extensive use in green technology. Expert Jack Lifton explains why we need to recycle rare earth metals.</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary> Rare earth metals are actually not rare in and of themselves but tend to be present with other compounds in very small quantities. Rare earth metals are used for a myriad of reasons including electronics, fuel cells, fiber optics, magnets, CRT's and LCD's, as well as their extensive use in green technology. In this segment of The Clean Energy View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to expert, Jack Lifton, a Founding Principal of Technology Metals Research, LLC and a Senior Fellow of the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security. We are going to address the issues of recycling for reducing the global footprint and as we also reduce the use of fossil fuels. Bio: Jack Lifton is also a consultant, author, and lecturer on the market fundamentals of the technology metals, the term that he coined to describe those strategic rare metals whose electronic properties make our technological society possible. These include the rare earths, lithium and most of the rare metals. Educated as a physical chemist, specializing in high-temperature metallurgy, Jack was first a researcher before becoming both a marketing and manufacturing executive. Finally, he became a metal trader specializing in the field of technology metals and of rare metals. Today, after 48 years of industry involvement, he advises both OEM high tech industry and the global institutional-investment community, on the natural resource issues that impact either a proposed business model or a high-volume manufacturing plan for the mass market. His work today is principally as a due-diligence consultant for institutional investors, looking into opportunities where rare and technology metals availability are a factor in determining the probability of commercial success of a metals-related venture.
What Do You Do If Your Pet Dies From Its Pet Food? - Aug 08,2012

<itunes:subtitle>Pet food expert Susan Thixton from Truth About Pet Food talks to June Stoyer about what you should do if your pet dies from store bought food.</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary> In 2007, the United States and Canada suffered the largest pet food recall in history due to the use of Melamime which was imported from China. Melamime is an additive that was used for the purpose of increasing protein levels when added to vegetable proteins as corn, soy and wheat. Subsequently, Melamime is lethal to cats and dogs. As a result, it is estimated that 300,000 pets suffered and died in just the US and Canada according to international pet food expert Susan Thixton. More than 4 years later, in the recently settled law suit filed after this mass murder, pet owners received only 50% of their claims. Do the laws actually protect pets or protect negligent companies from being held accountable? What course of action do you take if your animal companion dies from commercially produced pet food? How much money will this cost you? How hard is it to retain a law firm to file suit? In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will talk to world renowned pet food expert, Susan Thixton, Founder of Truth About Pet Food (www.truthaboutpetfood.com) about this very sensitive subject.
Clean Energy View: How Economically Viable Is Natural Gas? - Aug 07,2012

<itunes:subtitle>Energy expert, Thomas Drolet discusses whether natural gas truly is economically viable with Wall St. Expert Luis Mejia and host, June Stoyer.</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary> According to the EPA, natural gas is defined as a fossil fuel formed when layers of buried plants and animals are exposed to intense heat and pressure over thousands of years. The energy that the plants and animals originally obtained from the sun is stored in the form of carbon in natural gas. Natural gas is combusted to generate electricity, enabling this stored energy to be transformed into usable power. Natural gas is a nonrenewable resource because it cannot be replenished on a human time frame. The natural gas power production process begins with the extraction of natural gas, continues with its treatment and transport to the power plants, and ends with its combustion in boilers and turbines to generate electricity. Natural gas is used to generate electricity, serves as an alternative to gasoline, can be used to generate hydrogen and helps create fertilizer. It has a cost advantage over other forms of energy such as solar, wind and geothermal. However, there is a huge debate as to whether or not natural gas makes sense because of the pros and cons with this form of energy such as the environmental impact, the current return on the investment the impact on the face of energy. In this segment of The Clean Energy View Radio Show, hosts, June Stoyer and host, Luis Mejia, Managing Partner, Murdock Capital Partners talk to energy expert, Tom Drolet, President of Drolet and Associates Energy Services, Inc. Mr. Drolet has worked in the energy industry and technology innovation industries for over 42 years, including his tenure with the electrical utility industry at Ontario Hydro, the fourth largest electrical utility in the world (Nuclear, Coal, Natural Gas, Hydroelectric), American Electric Power (Canada) and DTE Energy.
Clean Energy View: John Elkington Talks About The Zeronauts - Aug 02,2012

<itunes:subtitle>John Elkington Discusses the new wave of leadership in energy and sustainability with hosts, June Stoyer and Luis Mejia.</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary> A world of 9 billion people by mid-century will demand fundamental changes in our mindsets, behaviors, cultures, and overarching paradigm. Just as our species broke the Sound Barrier during the 1940s and 1950s, a new breed of innovator, entrepreneur, and investor is lining up to break the Sustainability Barrier. In his best-selling book, John Elkington introduces The Zeronauts – a new breed of innovator, determined to drive problems such as carbon, waste, toxics, and poverty to zero – as well as creating the first Zeronaut Roll of Honor, spotlighting 50 pioneers in the field of zero. Zeronauts are innovating in an astonishing range of areas, tackling hugely diverse economic, social, environmental, and governance challenges. To give a sense of progress to date, we zero in on five key challenges (the 5Ps): population growth, pandemics, poverty, pollution, and proliferation. The power of zero has been trumpeted, notably in relation to zero defects. This book spotlights key lessons learned in the field of total quality management – and introduces a five-stage "Pathways to Zero" model, running through from the Eureka! discovery moment to the point where a new way of doing things becomes endemic in the economy. In order to move from incremental to transformative change, we must embrace wider framings, deeper insights, higher targets, and longer time scales. This book investigates some ways in which leading Zeronauts are pushing change in relevant directions, with cases drawn from a spectrum of human activity – from water profligacy to human genital mutilation. If we learn from these pioneers, the twenty-first century could be our best yet. In this segment of The Clean Energy View Radio Show, hosts, June Stoyer and special guest host, Luis Mejia, Managing Partner, Murdock Capital Partners talk to John Elkington about The Zeronauts. </itunes:summary>

Author, Patricia Cori: Before We Leave You - Aug 01,2012

<itunes:subtitle>World renowned animal communicator, Patricia Cori discusses her experience working with dolphins and explains their mass suicide. She also discusses why human beings need to protect marine life, especially since our existence is dependent upon theirs.</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary> What if whales and dolphins truly do have a superior intellect, as many believe, and can speak to the human race? What would their message be? In November 2008, gifted clairvoyant Patricia Cori was in Jordan teaching a workshop when a life-changing event occurred. A community of Cetaceans—“a choir of whales and dolphins,” as she describes it—interrupted her talk with a frantic plea for help. Cori was suddenly witness to a devastating scene of suffering, a communal grieving of scores of whales and dolphins “frenzied, lost, and dying.” This was the first of several terrifying calls for help, all of which were immediately followed by mass suicide events as these majestic creatures collectively chose to leave us and our planet. These troubling incidents evolved into the stream of messages for humanity that Cori reveals in this extremely timely work. The whales and dolphins present their deep understanding of our urgent global situation, calling for the human race to restore balance to our ecosystems—especially our dying oceans. For the first time, we read the communications of the Cetaceans and their story of devotion and celebration of life on the Great Planet Earth. We are also given a glimpse of their role in the unfolding of galactic events throughout our solar system, and the message is clear: We must wake up and realize that our continued abuse of the environment is altering the course of Gaia's progression to the next dimension. Without the whale and dolphin song—without these musicians who hold the oceans in balance—we risk our advancement through the ascension process for which our entire solar system is destined. Before We Leave You:Messages from the Great Whales and the Dolphin Beings is a roadmap to that higher future and a pathway to global transformation.Tune in to this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, as host, June Stoyer is joined by Patricia Cori. </itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>Dr Lewis Ziska discusses the use of invasive species as a possible source for biofuel with June Stoyer and Luis Mejia on the Clean Energy View Radio Show.</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary> As we shift from petroleum-based energy to renewable energy, the production of biofuel, created from invasive species appears to be a viable option. However, certain plant species which have been proposed for biofuel production include invasive species and/or other plants which have the potential to escape cultivation. Is this a good solution for eliminating an environmental issue while satisfying an energy need or is this type of biofuel merely creating a disaster in the making? In this segment of The Clean Energy View Radio Show, hosts, June Stoyer and special guest host, Luis Mejia talk to Dr. Lewis Ziska about the pros and cons of using invasive species as biofuel. Dr. Ziska is a Plant Physiologist with the USDA's Agricultural Research Service in Beltsville, Maryland. After graduating from the University of California, Davis, he began his career as a Smithsonian fellow, and then took up residence as the Project Leader for global climate change at the International Rice Research Institute in the Philippines before joining USDA. Dr. Ziska has published numerous papers on carbon dioxide and climate change impacts on agriculture, weed biology and public health. At present he is investigating the role of rising carbon dioxide and changing climate on food security, invasive species and aerobiology. Dr. Ziska's research has appeared in: The Wall Street Journal, National Geographic, The New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post, Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report and CNN Headline News. He has appeared on the ABC nightly news with Charles Gibson and the NBC nightly news with Brian Williams. He was also featured in the HBO documentary, “Too Hot Not to Handle”.
The Neonicotinoid View - Coalition against Bayer Dangers - Jul 27,2012

<itunes:subtitle>Philipp Mimkes Discusses Coalition against Bayer Dangers</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary> Bees are important pollinators which play a vital role in many diverse ecosystems. Food security is highly dependent on the activity of bees and other pollinating insects. Neonicotinoids are systemic chemicals that spread from the seed throughout the plant and disrupt the nervous system of any insect which comes into contact. The neurotoxins travel into the pollen and the nectar and can poison beneficial insects such as bees. Estimations for the LD 50 lie between 3 and 50 ng/bee. That means that 50% of the bees which consume 3-50 ng of the pesticide, all die. At even lower, sub-lethal, doses these compounds can cause bees to become disoriented, without directly killing the insect. Bees which cannot return to their hive will soon die. The Coalition against BAYER (CBGNetwork or CBG) has launched a campaign asking the Bayer company for a total ban of neonicotinoid pesticides. According to CBG's campaign, “Bayer managers have known the risks which neonicotinoid pesticides create for the environment since the early 1990s. The company downplayed the risks, submitted deficient studies to authorities and viewed the massive decline of honey bees and pollinators in many parts of the world as collateral damage.” In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer, and special guest host, Tom Theobald, talk to Philipp Mimkes, a physicist who has been working fulltime with the Coalition for the last 18 years. We will discuss the CBG's Campaign To Ban Neonicotinoids and their most recent efforts. Stay tuned! </itunes:summary>

Joel Salatin -Folks, This Ain't Normal! - Jul 26,2012

<itunes:subtitle>Joel Salatin Discusses the process by which our food is made and the issues with mass produced food.</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary> Thanks to decades of clever mass marketing campaigns, the average person has become completely disconnected with how our food is grown and also what real food should look like. With the agro-chemical companies chiming away that “there is going to be a food shortage if we don't produce more food and decrease the world population in order for everyone to survive,” the reality is most people do not have a clue as to how their food is produced, where it is grown or how it is grown. Processed foods, initially created with the intention to save time, are simply not a healthy choice. Some of these processed, ready to “heat and serve” products made with “real chicken” are breaded, seasoned and disguised in all sorts of geometrical shapes so that children will be encouraged to eat them. Meanwhile, the average child who primarily consumes this type of food has no idea what a chicken looks like, sounds like or the fact that chickens are smart, loving beings. It takes a true organic farmer to really get the point across about the benefits of growing organics and eating organics. Joel Salatin is an organic farmer from Virginia who talks about the problems he sees not only as an organic farmer but as a consumer of organic foods. In hisbest-selling book, Folks, This Aint Normal: A Farmers Advice for Happier Hens, Healthier People, and a Better World he takes us into his world as he talks about how our food is produced and why we ought to take a closer look at where and how our food is produced.
How The Coral Reef Wildlife Trade Is Destroying The Ocean - Jul 24,2012

<itunes:subtitle>Dr. Dan Thornhill, Coral Reef Marine Scientist from Defenders of Wild Life talks about crisis with coral reef.</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary> When the Gulf Oil spill happened, the public was outraged. There was a worldwide outcry of concern for marine life and marine preservation as the Gulf Oil spill contaminated miles of pristine ocean and its surrounding areas. However, there is an even bigger problem affecting marine life. It is being done for the sake of fashion and exotic home décor. An estimated 70-90% of marine aquariums are collected illegally using poisonous cyanide. Other poisons such as bleach, formalin, and gasoline are also used. This not only reduces biodiversity but also removes key components of the reef ecosystem, including algae grazers, which help maintain ecosystem health. Coral reefs contain some of the largest diversity of life in the world. They are home to thousands of different plants and animals. For example, coral reefs in the Florida Keys sustain 500 species of fish, more than 1700 species of mollusks, five species of sea turtles, and hundreds of species of sponges. Did you know that fish feel pain, as do crustaceans and other invertebrates? Coral reefs are typically found at a depth less than 150 feet so that they are reachable by sunlight. Corals contain microscopic algae, called zooxanthellae, that provide the coral with food and give them their vibrant colors. On average, they grow about 1 mm to 4cm per year.
In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Dr. Dan Thornhill, Coral Reef Marine Scientist from Defenders of Wild Life (http://www.defenders.org) about this crisis. Stay tuned. </itunes:summary>

Dr. Spivak's interest in bees began when she worked for a commercial beekeeper from New Mexico in 1975. She later completed her B.A. in Biology from Humboldt State University in northern California, and her PhD from the University of Kansas, under Dr. Orley “Chip” Taylor, in 1989. She spent two years in Costa Rica conducting her thesis research on the identification and ecology of Africanized and European honeybees. From 1989-1992 she did post-doctoral research at the Center for Insect Science at the University of Arizona. She began as Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota in 1993. Influenced by Martha Gilliam and Steve Taber from the USDA Bee lab in Tucson, she became interested in hygienic behavior of honeybees. This interest has expanded into studies of “social immunity”, including the benefits of propolis to the immune system of honeybees. </itunes:summary>

The Neonicotinoid View: Beekeepers Response To EPA Decision - Jul 20,2012

<itunes:subtitle>Commercial beekeeper and bee health advocate, Steve Ellis discusses EPA's failure to respond to beekeeping community to a legal petition calling for, among other things, the suspension of the neonicotinoid, Clothianidin.</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary> Yesterday, The Environmental Protection Agency astounded the beekeeping community by announcing that it would not respond to a legal petition filed this past April calling for, among other things, the suspension of the neonicotinoid, Clothianidin. The beekeeping community is outraged and perplexed as to how they can invoke change, especially if their legal demands for reform are completely ignored. According to the Apiary Inspectors of America, the unsustainable honeybee losses in the USA have reached 30-33 percent. However, according to the working beekeeping community, annual losses are well over 50 percent, with many operations experiencing up to 100 percent turnover. In this special series called The Neonicotinoid View, host, June Stoyer, will be joined by special guest host, beekeeper, Tom Theobald to discuss this decision with Steve Ellis, secretary of the National Honeybee Advisory Board (NHAB). Mr. Ellis has been involved in pesticide issues for the past 15 years and has been a beekeeper for 32 years. Mr. Ellis has 2300 colonies which he operates for honey production and pollination for crops in California. He is a graduate of the University of Washington and resides in Barrett, MN.
The Controversy Surrounding Hemp - Jul 19,2012

<itunes:subtitle>Discussion about obstacles surrounding hemp industry in America.</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary> Most people think that hemp is synonymous with marijuana. In fact, when it comes to purchasing hemp garments or foods, the general public seems to believe that you can get high from its consumption. People have often jokingly quipped, “if I buy it, do I just wear it and then smoke it when I'm done with it?” The truth is, you could burn it all you want but are not going to get “high” from it. This is one of the most common falsehoods about hemp. Hemp has been grown for at least the last 12,000 years for fiber (textiles and paper) and food. Oddly enough, it has been effectively prohibited in the United States since the 1950s. Did you know that our founding fathers used hemp? George Washington and Thomas Jefferson both grew hemp. Ben Franklin owned a mill that made hemp paper. Jefferson even drafted the Declaration of Independence on hemp paper. Henry Ford experimented with hemp to build car bodies. He wanted to build and fuel cars from farm products. BMW is experimenting with hemp materials in automobiles as part of an effort to make cars more recyclable. According to The North American Hemp Industrial Hemp Council (http://naihc.org), the hemp plant is harvested for its fibers, seed, seed meal and seed oil. Hemp is a distinct variety of the plant species cannabis sativa L. Due to the similar leaf shape, hemp is frequently confused with marijuana. Although both plants are from the species cannabis, hemp contains virtually no THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), the active ingredient in marijuana. Hemp cannot be used as a drug because it produces virtually no THC (less than 1%), where marijuana produces between 5 - 20 % THC. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will speak to Erwin A. "Bud" Sholts, NAIHC Chairman and agricultural policy expert, Jeffrey W. Gain. If you want to learn more about this biblical fiber and the controversy involved, stay tuned! </itunes:summary>
